Southern Italy: A Culinary Adventure at Souderton High School


Step into our Southern Italy Cuisine class, where bold tastes and fragrant herbs and spices come together to create culinary magic. This week, our junior chefs at Create-a-Cook's Souderton High School location embarked on a flavorful journey through Southern Italy under the expert guidance of Chef Lindsay. From mastering classic pasta dishes to crafting delectable desserts, our young chefs developed their culinary skills and deepened their appreciation for Italy's rich culinary heritage.


Monday: Orecchiette with Spinach and Sausage Alfredo


We kicked off the week with a delicious Orecchiette with Spinach and Sausage Alfredo. Chef Lindsay guided our junior chefs in creating this creamy and flavorful dish, teaching them the importance of using fresh, high-quality ingredients to achieve authentic Italian flavors.


Tuesday: Tender Italian Sugar Cookies


Tuesday was all about baking. The junior chefs made Tender Italian Sugar Cookies, learning the secrets to achieving the perfect texture and flavor. These delightful cookies were a hit, showcasing the simple yet delicious charm of Italian desserts.


Wednesday: Arancini


Midweek, our chefs tackled the classic Italian street food, Arancini. These crispy, golden rice balls filled with savory goodness were a fun and rewarding challenge. Chef Lindsay taught the junior chefs the techniques needed to make perfect Arancini, from preparing the risotto to achieving the ideal fry.


Thursday: Tiramisu


Thursday featured the beloved Italian dessert, Tiramisu. The junior chefs learned to layer coffee-soaked ladyfingers with rich mascarpone cream, creating a dessert that was both elegant and indulgent. This hands-on experience emphasized the importance of precision and patience in baking.


Friday: Pizza Napoletana


We wrapped up the week with a quintessential Italian favorite: Pizza Napoletana. Using fresh dough and a variety of toppings, our junior chefs crafted their own pizzas, learning the art of creating a perfect crust and balancing flavors. This interactive and fun activity was a fantastic way to conclude their culinary journey through Southern Italy.
